Located just south of the Queensland and New South Wales border, Lolita’s is a casual dining spot at Casuarina. This new addition to the Tweed Coast dining scene is already wildly popular and it’s not hard to see why.

The lively vibe of Lolita’s Cantina can be felt before you even reach the front door. We’re arriving for an early dinner, while tables are extending their likely more-margarita-than-taco lunch well into the afternoon. Beyond being extremely Instagram-worthy, the interior of Lolita’s is eclectic, colourful and jam-packed with hanging plant life.

The first round of drinks included a diverse range of colourful concoctions. From the bright orange old fashioned (a personal favourite of the waiter’s) to the sweet and tangy lychee margarita, lack of choice was not an issue.

The food range was nothing to scoff at either. Starters included more modern takes on Mexican street food, including jalapeno poppers stuffed with cashew cream, crispy squid drowned in green papaya & chilli pickle and the ever-consistent crowd-pleaser, popcorn chicken. Then it was back to the classics, with three different taco options to feast on. These included a BBQ smoked brisket with sweetcorn and black beans, crispy cauliflower with sweetcorn hummus, and my personal favourite, the ‘el pastor’ – a combination of slow cooked pork and roast pineapple. At the end of the six-course feast, we are far too full for dessert. A shame, considering the Classic Churros are on offer! We chalk it up as an excuse to return for more.
